Decorating with bright colors can be intimidating. It’s easy to pair neutrals with other neutrals, but bright colors pose all kinds of potential challenges. That’s why we’re here to help!
If you are looking to add splashes of color to your space, a great place to start is with the rug. Not only do bright rugs help you determine what colors you can bring into the rest of your space, but there are also some really cool options that will make a big impact with minimal decorating effort. From funky retro designs to classic Persian styles, we’ve got bright colored rugs for every aesthetic.
Keep scrolling to check out some of our favorite bright colored rugs and tips on how to decorate different rooms using these beautiful pieces.
1. Keep the rest of your space simple
If you’re a beginner when it comes to decorating with color, we suggest keeping it simple. Start with a bold rug design, like the Mid-Century Modern rug in the dining room seen here, then incorporate matching pieces to keep the room grounded. The orange curtains, gold chair cushions, and green plants give the space a cohesive feel while allowing the rug to remain the true stand-out piece.
2. Play with contrasting tones
This is another subtle but beautiful way to add lots of color to a room. Once you select the bright colored rug you want, try playing with tones on the opposite side of the color wheel in the rest of your space. Take this living area featuring a pink Persian rug, for instance. The warm tones pair beautifully with the cool green tones of all the plants sprinkled throughout. The same theory works with other color combos, as well. Try yellow and orange with blue and green.
3. Brighten up a small patio
When it comes to outdoor spaces, there’s no such thing as too much color. Between the stunning natural light and the natural greenery, color seems right at home with these surroundings. To make the most of a small patio, opt for a multicolor outdoor rug that packs a punch without requiring a ton of room. If you really want to tie the space together, match the furniture cushions to one of the hues in the rug.
4. Add a colorful pop to a hallway
Hallways can seem so boring and basic, but once you introduce a colorful rug, that all changes. Make a statement in your narrow spaces with a bold runner, like the Jonathan Adler rug seen here. It stands out against the wooden floor to add visual interest while also tying in with the blues and greens featured on the gallery wall. The pairing gives the room a unique, eclectic feel.
5. Coordinate with the walls
If you’re really feeling brazen, try coordinating the rug’s colors with your walls, whether that be with wallpaper or paint. This choice is not for the faint of heart, but when done right it can be a total game changer. While the colors don’t have to match up perfectly, it’s best to stick within the same family of colors, like the candy-colored pastels in this colorful sitting area.
6. Go all out
Bright colors are supposed to be fun – so why not just go all out? Forget all the rules and do your own thing. Mix and match patterns, colors, and styles to create a space that’s uniquely yours. If you do go this route, get yourself a bright colored living room rug that takes up the majority of the space. This will help to somewhat ground the design, even if it is a wild one.

Is there a way to upload a room photo and see how different rugs look in my room?
Great question, Deborah! We do not offer a feature such as that at this time. We do however offer samples (US and Canada) if you’d ever like to get a closer look at any of our rugs and see how the pattern/colors look in your space. You can find more into about our samples here: myruggable.com/sample_faq
