As leaves turn a gorgeous shade of burnt orange, redecorating your home in time for the crisper, cooler fall weather is probably top of mind. The good news? It doesn’t really take much time and effort to turn your home from so last season to being on-trend. All it takes are a few decor tweaks and—of course—a fall- or Halloween-themed area rug or runner to boot! Get into the spirit of Thanksgiving and Halloween with these five tips from design experts.
1. Start With a White or Neutral Base
“Starting with a white or neutral base with bedding, seating, and wall colors can make it easier to change your decor with the seasons. From there, I added lots of patterns like plaids, fall colors, and textures with pillows, florals, cozy blankets, and eye-catching rugs. —Tammy Groethe
2. Use Your Rug to Set the Color and Mood of Your Space
“Styling for fall can be really affordable and fun! First, I love to change out my Ruggable rug into a fall-themed rug to anchor the space with seasonal color. Next, I carry that color throughout my space with fall foliage, mums, pumpkins, and books. I love to visit our local library and stock up on all the seasonal books. Finally, I will add fall-themed quotes or poems to chalkboards and whiteboards to add a personal touch.” —Morgan Dabney
3. Don’t Add, Just Swap
“When it comes to fall decorating, I like to keep my decor as clean as possible. To me, that means just swapping out things we are already using in the home for fall-inspired pieces instead of placing too many additions! For example, I will swap out welcome rugs or kitchen rugs for Halloween-inspired rugs. Bath and kitchen towels will be switched out as well. Decorative pieces and books on our bookshelves will be changed out too.” —Jess Baumgardner
4. Bring Natural Elements In
“With this change of season, I find myself bringing in natural elements, like branches full of leaves, pine cones, pumpkins (of course). There is so much to gather right outside your door!
I’m also going with pops of warmth throughout our home, I’ve gotten a few mustard and rust-colored pillows and throw blankets that I’m so excited to use! I think it’s an easy but impactful design element to choose a color or two and repeat those colors throughout your space.
Finally, I like to think of fall as a time of getting cozy; this means layers and textures. Try using a basket tray and filling it with the good stuff: pillows, extra throws, pumpkins—just keeping it simple. Then add books, a vase full of branches with colored leaves, a few pumpkins and maybe a vintage item and ta-da!” —Devon Else
5. Add a Pop of Vintage
“Utilize items that can be redesigned to create a new look! For instance, vintage crocks can adorn seasonal foliage while the fireplace mantel and the chair can serve as the centerpiece for your space. You can also fill the mantel with items that tell your story! For me, it’s vintage books!
Let us not forget the importance of a rug to tie both sides of your space together. And is there anything better, more versatile than a Ruggable rug? I think not! I love that I can simply remove and change out the top layer season after season, giving the space a fresh look time and time again!” —Laura Opfel

Hi, Pamela! Noted – We’ll send your feedback along to the team.
I love my Ruggable runner in the kitchen. Looks terrific. Haven’t had to wash it yet, but have had a couple of tiny spills that cleaned up in a minute with a wet cloth.
I am, however, frustrated that the rug “creeps”. I have hardwood floors and it drives me wild that the rug won’t stay lined up where I put it. I have to straighten it nearly EVERY day. Any suggestions?
How can I get a sample piece? Thank you!
Thanks for reaching out, Susan! Rug samples can be ordered by emailing support@ruggable.com.
Would love to see craftsman or mission style Ruggable!

We redid our kitchen flooring this year and we have the padded runner set that is used between our island and appliances. We ordered toppers for all seasons and it is so fun and easy to quickly change them out for each season or holiday! We LOVE them! We do wish you made a slightly shorter runner for our bathroom vanity area. We may need to see about rugs for in front of our bathtubs now, too!
Love the decorating ideas!
