Perfection is overrated.
That’s Monica Ahanonu’s philosophy. “What makes things feel alive are their imperfections. For me the idea that shapes and color compositions are imperfect gives them more of a story and gives room for the viewer to create their own world around whatever design they choose.”
The illustrator and model has brought this idea to life with her collection for Ruggable, featuring eight indoor and outdoor rugs that are bold, vibrant, and of course, washable.
While it’s her first foray into home decor, she says she was excited to work with Ruggable on something new and she hopes the rugs “can bring joy and curiosity to your day.”
When coming up with the designs, Ahanonu says she was “inspired by how color affects your energy throughout the day” and “looked into the details of things around me, things in nature and color combinations that I felt would compliment a wide variety of spaces and personalities.”

While this collection might seem intimidating to incorporate into your home, Ahanonu assures us styling the rugs is easy: “Start with small pops of color and slowly incorporate larger ones as you feel comfortable. By creating rugs that are asymmetrical and can be presented at any angle, it allows for buyers to play around and decide what variation of the rug they want to present with their other decor.”
As part of the collaboration between Ruggable and Ahanonu, a donation has been made to Project Glimmer, one of her favorite charities that supports young women’s mental health.
“I want young girls to have access to resources that help them feel as confident as they can be as they figure out their unique passions and realize their full potential.”
