When done right, minimalist home design is anything but boring. Contrary to popular belief, the decor style is all about prioritizing function and simplicity — and the clean, tranquil vibes almost always lend themselves to breathtaking Instagram shots.
So if you’re thinking about embracing minimalist decor but aren’t sure how to make it your own, you’ve come to the right place. One way to curate a unique minimalist space is by elevating it with a rug, be it a captivating design, texture, or shape.
Keep scrolling to peruse some of the best minimalist decor ideas and rug pairings that are sure to inspire your next redecorating project.
1. Subtly Southwestern
This minimalist bedroom perfectly epitomizes the “less is more” approach to home design, but it certainly doesn’t sacrifice style. The space has a touch of Southwestern flair, as seen in the geometric-patterned Re-Jute Rug and distressed wooden details. It even appears like the designer chose to stick to a desert-inspired color palette, evidenced by the orange textured throw pillow, which is undoubtedly a flawless finishing touch.
2. Light and Bright
While a dining room rug isn’t strictly required, it sure does help breathe life into your elegantly understated space. Notice how the black details of this modern minimalist rug match the handles of the room’s floor-to-ceiling cabinets — as well as the decorative table tray. We love the addition of the circular ceramic vase, which so-elegantly rounds out the space and proves that it’s entirely possible to fuse modern and minimalist elements cohesively.
3. Moody Monochrome
This cloud-like white couch is nap-worthy, to say the very least. Likewise, it’s a prime example of minimalist living room decor, particularly how it nails the monochrome aesthetic. The designer tied in unique shapes (see: the asymmetrical mirror) and black accents to contrast the all-white space. We adore the mix of textures as well, from the velvet couch to the ribbed blanket, to the cozy white shag rug layered over the subtly patterned grey rug.
4. Scandi Chic
This dreamy minimalist dining room evokes a Scandinavian aesthetic. The distressed rug ensures that all eyes are drawn to the center of the room and, arguably, the star of the show: the soft-edged, oak dining table, accessorized with a singular coffee table book and a vase dressed with pampas grass. Note the fusion of contrasting light and dark hues (see the natural wood dining table teamed with black-cushioned chairs), which is famously a Scandinavian style element that bends itself beautifully to a minimalist space.
5. Stylish Symmetry
If you’re wondering how to make your minimalist bedroom unique, check out this incredible barrel-shaped canopy bed frame contrasted with all-white bedding. The matching wooden side tables add symmetry, while the mismatched decor atop each is a visually compelling touch. In this case, the designer opted for a patterned rug, particularly a distressed Persian design, to add a touch of color to the neutral-toned space.
6. Magnificently Mod
File this living room under your favorite “minimalist decor ideas” because the space practically doubles as an art museum. Though minimalist in the sense that each piece is chosen carefully, it’s full of life. The art deco area rug adds depth and dimension, while the stacked shelving draws the eye up and around the room.

Question… Is the bottom rug Velcro? Does it line up easily after removal to wash, then reapply? Does/can it shrink after wash?
Thank you.
Hi, CiCi! Our Rug Pad (bottom layer) consists of 100% recycled polyester and thermoplastic rubber (a latex-free synthetic material most commonly used in yoga mats). Our rugs have a unique cling technology, sometimes compared to that of Velcro, that keeps the Rug Cover attached to the nonslip Rug Pad. Our rugs will not bunch or slide!😊
Additionally, our rugs are fairly easy to lay out, both upon delivery and after washing – larger sizes may be easier with an extra set of hands, however! This how-to video might help with better showing how our assembly process words: https://myruggable.com/newassembly
As for shrinkage, when following our wash and care instructions your rug should come out looking like new each time! With that said, shrinkage is something that can naturally occur overtime from washing and drying in minimal amounts, but nothing that is hindersome overall. Our rugs are actually designed so that the Rug Pad is slightly smaller than the Rug Cover partially to help address this matter!
