We’re excited to give you a “behind-the-scenes” tour of the design process of our new collection of washable rugs, Moroccan Rugs. Moroccan handwoven rugs incorporate rich, bold colors with traditional geometric patterns. Each design tells a story of nomadic travels, evoking the calming yet unforgiving nature of the Moroccan desert landscape. Our designers drew from this tradition and gave this collection a twist of modernity.
From concept to reality, each design is methodically considered and carefully rendered in sketches. These sketches aim to preserve the true Berber hand-woven aesthetic on our washable 2-piece rug system. Next, artistic modifications including shape, color, and texture are made. Once the final design is complete it is digitally rendered and beautifully depicted as you can see in this collection. Our Ruggable Moroccan Rug collection will make you feel like you’re halfway across the world all in the comfort of your own home.
Traditional Moroccan Character Motifs in Modern Washable Rugs
If you love geometric designs, add a unique and bold style to your home with our newest Moroccan character motif rugs—Ruggable edition. With a neutral to the bold color range, our washable version of Moroccan character motif rugs can seamlessly work in your home office or even nursery!
The simplicity of character motifs pairs well with luxe gold accents or paired down with more rustic decor. The aesthetic works with various styles from eclectic, antique and contemporary.
Our designers combined traditional design with function inspired by the vast character motifs traditionally found in Moroccan art and handwoven rugs. Character motifs add more than just decor, these motifs are deeply rooted in history and tradition. Morocco’s textile heritage is long-reaching, dating back hundreds of years and heavily influenced by women and the surrounding cultures in the region.
Traditionally, character motifs have special meanings and include daily life in the desert region which include rebirth, love, earth, sun, and moon. Our rendition of Moroccan character motifs can be seen in Kenza, Kavi and Lunja. We selected characters to reflect modern life and astrological interests in our rugs, specifically Kavi, which used simplistic characters like the moon, sun, and stars depicting rebirth.
From Moroccan Sand Dunes to Your Home
If you’re interested in home decor, you’ve probably seen the Moroccan-inspired black and white diamond rug trend that has been a sweeping sensation this year. This simple design has deep historical roots in nomadic traditions and the natural sand dune landscape of Morocco.
Ruggable’s hand-drawn Ziri, Illi and Kella rugs evoke the repeated outlines of the sand dunes caps, paying tribute to the unforgiving yet calming nature of the Moroccan desert. Our color palettes stay true to neutral Moroccan Berber hand weaving designs, and at the same time infuse a pop of modern polychrome.
Ready to create your dream space? These tribal-inspired geometric shapes blend seamlessly with mid-century furniture, millennial marble accents or aged wood decor pieces. You can pair these rugs with palettes of white, off-white and neutrals or boldly accent your space by giving your room a stark color contrast. Either way, you can count on these rugs to elongate the space itself.
Farah, the Fashion Icon
From royal influence to a washable rug, Ruggable is heavily inspired by the icon and queen socialite known as Farah Pahlavi. Farah reigned from 1961-1979 in Iran, during which time she brought back traditional, customary and heavily ornate Berber designs to the forefront of fashion and home decor.
Known for her interest in Moroccan traditional textiles, art, and fashion; Farah was truly one of a kind. She had a knack for mixing traditional Moroccan aesthetics and high fashion like Dior, and she made it look effortless.
Much like her personal style, our renditions of classic Moroccan rugs accentuate the ancient needlework and elaborate embroidery of floral art within a stylish, washable and functional rug.
Go from Boho to ultra-modern home decor instantly, with our Moroccan Berber rugs known as Sibel, Lunja, and Farah, named after our inspiration, Farah, herself. Whether you love ornate or minimalist accents, gold hardware or brushed chrome, our classic yet trendy, jeweled tone, geometric and floral design rug systems work in any space. Easily create a luxurious or relaxed home with our beautiful royal bordered rug collection.
