Jute Rug, Reimagined: Everything You Need to Know About Ruggable’s Re-Jute Rugs

May 20, 2021

Nothing brings warmth, depth, and worldly charm into a room quite like jute rugs. But as beautiful as these rugs are, no one can deny the amount of work required to keep natural fiber rugs, like jute rugs, in pristine condition for a long time, especially if you have pets and kids at home.

And that’s why Ruggable created Re-Jute, the first washable rug that lets you enjoy everything you love about jute rugs—minus all the things that you don’t. Below are just a few reasons to love our washable jute rug alternative.

1. It looks just like jute, but without the scratchy, itchy texture (and funky smell).

Jute look without the jute feel. Our Re-Jute Rugs are designed to mimic the look of natural jute rugs. But instead of the coarse, scratchy feel typical of 100% jute rugs, Re-Jute features a smooth, woven texture that feels nice and smooth under bare feet. And if you’re not a fan of that strong, distinct scent that usually comes with natural fiber rugs, this one’s for you!

2. It doesn’t fray or shed like natural jute rugs.

Jute rugs are highly durable rugs. But because they’re made from natural fibers, they tend to shed. These loose fibers end up everywhere and look like a layer of dust on your floor (like you haven’t cleaned in years!)—and they’re even more noticeable if you have dark hardwood floors.

Unlike jute, Re-Jute is made from durable materials that naturally don’t shed or fray, so it stays intact. And because it can stand up to spills, heavy foot traffic, pet accidents, and even your washing machine, you can place it pretty much anywhere: the dining room, kitchen, entryway, and even in outdoor spaces.

3. It’s machine-washable, which makes it easier to clean and maintain.

At this point, a washable rug is no longer a nice-to-have, it’s a necessity, especially in spaces like the dining room and kitchen where spills are inevitable. Because natural jute rugs are not designed to be washed or steam-cleaned—getting them wet might damage the fibers and cause discoloration—cleaning up after a spill or pet accident can be tricky, if not totally impossible.

Just like other Ruggable rugs, Re-Jute rugs are machine-washable, stain-resistant, and water-resistant, making spills cleanup just one laundry load away. And did we mention they’re also mold and mildew-resistant? So feel free to place them indoors, outdoors, or anywhere in between.

4. It complements a variety of home decor styles.

Just like jute rugs, Re-Jute rugs share that earthy, laid-back, and classy vibe that can instantly add texture and warmth to any room. Their neutral color and tone can blend easily with just about any color motif and home decor style, from boho to coastal to desert to eclectic.

And if you’re the type who never settles on one aesthetic, you’d be happy to know that our our Re-Jute rugs are interchangeable. Meaning you can switch out an existing Ruggable Rug Cover with any same-size Re-Jute Rug Cover to instantly update the look of your space. Easy peasy.

5. Re-Jute helps reduce waste.

As real jute can be a pain to maintain, especially after a spill or a pet accident, a lot of jute rugs get thrown away. Re-Jute, on the other hand, can be washed over and over, which means you can own this rug for a long, long time. What’s more, Re-Jute rugs are partially made with recycled plastic water bottles—up to 180 bottles per rug! So not only are you reducing the number of rugs in landfills when you own a Re-Jute, you’re also keeping water bottles out of them, too!

Finally, as if we need more reasons to love Re-Jute, these rugs are just simply gorgeous! See how stylists decorated their space with their favorite Re-Jute rugs, below.

Will the re-jute rugs be released in larger sizes (8×10 or 9×12)?

That’s a great question, Jessica! At this time we do not offer our Re-Jute Rugs in 8’x10′ or larger sizes and we do not have any new sizes planned. However, we appreciate your interest and will be sure to pass along this suggestion to our team!

I’d like to pitch in and make you aware of my interest. I also was discouraged that re-jute didn’t come in larger sizes. I have a very large living area space and was looking forward to ordering a couple rugs.

When will the 6×9 re-jute rug in flat woven warm sand be back in stock? I want to order a runner and a 6×9. The runners are available but not 6×9 and I don’t want the runner without the area rug.

Thank you for your interest in our Re-Jute Rugs, Lee! Due to popular demand, our 6’x9′ Re-Jute rugs have sold out quicker than expected. We do not have an exact time frame of when this Re-Jute rug size will be back in stock, so stay tuned on our social channels and sign up for our newsletter by visiting Ruggable.com for future product updates. 🙂

Hi! How well do your re-jute rugs do with Roomba? Roomba has destroyed my natural jute rug, so I’m looking for a solution and this might be it, but can’t tell from the pictures what the texture is actually like. Have you tested this? Thanks!

Great question, Leonor! We actually do not recommend the use of Roomba’s or any robot cleaners with our rugs since they can sometimes get caught on the edges of our rugs.

We recommend using a vacuum on the lowest setting and or a setting that raises the vacuum off the floor a bit. You can also throw them in the washing machine in cold water, using mild and non-bleach detergent to help address any messes. You can then dry the Rug Cover in the dryer on low heat.

We hope this was helpful. Please feel free to reach out to our Customer Care team at support@ruggable.com if you have any questions!

What is re-jute made of, exactly? Apart from up to 180 recycled bottles?

Hi, Brian. Our Re-Jute Rug Covers are made from recycled polyester sourced from post-consumer recycled plastic bottles, virgin polyester, and a polyurethane water-resistant barrier.
