Need some new home decor inspiration? Look no further than these six black women. Their Instagram feeds are filled with stunning photos of their beautifully styled living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, and more. Whether you prefer modern glam decor or lean towards boho style, you’re sure to get plenty of new ideas scrolling through their pages.
We interviewed each of them to learn more about their decor style, their best piece of design advice, and of course, their Ruggable rug pick. Read their answers, below.
Name: Katherine Jackson of @justbeingkatherine
Rug Pick: Currently, the Leelu Black and White Rug!
Her design style: I would describe my design style as very cozy and inviting! It definitely has a free-spirited bohemian vibe with pops of yellow, muted pinks, LOTS of plants, and a mix of natural elements.
Her story: I have been an interior designer and home decor enthusiast for two years. I actually went to school for Fashion Merchandising! Ironically, there are a lot of parallels between the fashion and interior/home decor worlds! I moved around from home to home so much throughout my teen and young adult years. I simply wanted a place to come home to that was safe, warm, peaceful, and that I could call my own! I began learning more about what it is that makes me feel “at home.” As I took that time to figure it out, it came through bright colors, soothing sounds, warm lights–and slowly I began designing our rental to match our style.
Her styling tip: Trends come and go…don’t spend so much of your time trying to keep up with them! Whatever it is that you love, display it! The more you do so, the more your space will be filled with your story, a uniqueness that no one else has.
Name: Tiffany Brown of @myeclecticnest
Rug Pick: All of my Ruggable rugs really take the room up a notch so I do love them for that reason.
Her design style: I would say my home style is very eclectic. I certainly enjoy a mix of design styles and aesthetics.
Her favorite piece of decor: It’s hard to say because I love so many pieces in my home, but if I had to choose I would say our sectional sofa. It’s perfect for lounging and can seat quite a few people comfortably. It’s where everyone gravitated to when we entertained.
Her styling tip: My first and I think most important tip is to not follow trends! Always go with what you love; it’s your home and it should tell your story. What you chose to use to decorate and design your home should absolutely make you smile!
Name: Kerry Gray of @kerryannhome
Rug Pick: It’s so hard to choose! There are so many amazing patterns and types. I really could not choose one!
Her design style: In my home I love to keep things simple and clutter-free. I like a modern look but I also like to incorporate a few glam elements to tie everything in nicely as well. I would describe my decor style as modern glam.
Her story: Ever since I can remember, I have always been passionate about home decor. My passion led me to share my home and what inspires me in November of 2020, when I started my Instagram home decor account. It has been an amazing journey! My husband, who is my biggest motivator, talked me into sharing my passion with the world. It was the best advice that I received.
Her styling tip: Be true to yourself and to your own taste! Make sure that your design also brings comfort to your home.
Name: Kerry Harris of @popsofcolorhome
Rug Pick: All of them, but I love the Kavi Mosaic Stone Rug.
Her design style: Modern classic with a touch of glam.
Her story: I’ve been passionate about home decor since the early 2000s. My hubby pushed me to start my home decor page after seeing how much I loved decorating our home.
Her styling tip: Buy furniture and decor pieces you absolutely love! This way, you’ll have them for a very long time.
Name: Ashley Dixon of @alexanderreneedesign
Rug Pick: Cosmic Marble Grey Rug
Her design style: I would say my style is a combination of modern and classic, with a sprinkle of glam to keep it interesting. My home truly reflects my style, which is also evident in my clothing choices. I wear mostly white, black, and gray, and my home matches my closet.
Her favorite piece of decor: I love candles and fresh flowers. I think they warm up any space so much, I have a mild obsession.
Her styling tip: Your home should be a reflection of your personality and style. While that may change over time, it will outlast trends that come and go quickly. Follow your gut and create a space that is uniquely you and makes you feel good. I don’t care if animal print is in or out. I have an unhealthy obsession with leopard print (as my kids would say) and you can usually find a touch of it in my wardrobe and throughout my home, but I truly love it.
Name: Tiffany DeLangie of @prettyrealblog
Rug Pick: I love the Kavi Diamond Rose Gold Rug that’s in my living room. But I was also just ogling the Marrakesh Beige Ivory Rug. Must I choose?!
Her design style: I wish I had a more definitive answer to this question! I’m still figuring it out but thinking in terms of what I’m drawn to rather than one style that describes me helps (I like them all!). To that end, I love clean lines, tribal motifs, neutrals with pops of color, and a little bit of drama!
Her story: I’ve been interested in home decor ever since I begged for a brass daybed when I was 11. Ha! I’ve always loved creating pretty spaces. When I became a stay-at-home mom while pregnant with my second child, I realized how much the aesthetics of my space (or lack thereof!) affected my mood. I didn’t have a lot of time or the budget to do much about it, but I started making tiny incremental changes. I also started following home decor bloggers and DIYing, which changed the way I decorated my house.
Her styling tip: Take your time! I always regret rushing. Contrary to HGTV (or even Instagram), decorating your home takes time. I’m preaching to myself here, but try to enjoy the journey. Oh, and mood boards! Having a vision before getting started has been a recent goal of mine and I’ve seen how much smoother the process goes when I have a gameplan.

My kitchen floor is literally an R shape. The longest part is counters and stove while the curved part has sink and dishwasher. Would you recommend a runner or rectangle-shaped Ruggable For this space?
