If you followed New York Fashion Week last month, you might have witnessed Ruggable’s first runway appearance. The Rugway, a 200-foot-long rug inspired by Dr. Seuss’ “Oh, the Places You’ll Go,” graced one of New York City’s most iconic and Instagrammable landmarks: Tribeca’s Jay Street. Colorful, playful, and oh-so-fun, our washable rug was the perfect backdrop for Cynthia Rowley’s Spring/Summer 2020 collection.
Speaking of Cynthia Rowley, you probably know her as one of New York’s most famous fashion designers. But aside from being at the helm of a leading global lifestyle brand, she’s also the pioneer of “surf-leisure” wear, a best-selling author, an avid traveler and adventure seeker, and an advocate of women empowerment. And, as if that’s not enough, she has also made her mark in the home decor space. From brightly colored floral duvet covers to boldly patterned pillows and curtains, Cynthia’s home decor line reflects the same playfulness, practicality, and casual elegance that made her clothing line a glowing success.
And so with the holiday festivities fast approaching, we thought it would be timely to sit down with Cynthia and get a few home decor tips straight from a pro! Here she tells us the inspiration behind her latest designs, the reason she loves Ruggable, PLUS, her five entertaining must-haves for a stress-free soiree season.
RUGGABLE: The Cynthia Rowley fashion brand is known for its bold colors and playful patterns, what is the inspiration behind your designs?
Cynthia Rowley: Everything and anything can be an inspiration. From contemporary art to fruits and vegetables! We create all our signature prints and take great joy in experimenting with color. Inspiration is endless. Living an active lifestyle is also part of the fun, I love a far-flung adventure and also cherish my weekends surfing in Montauk in the summer months.
Do you see any overlapping themes between fashion and home decor? How are these two different worlds interacting with each other?
100%! Design is design no matter the category. You have to think about the same things: composition, color, fabric, shape, etc. Everything overlaps at some point and, similar to fashion, home decor is all subjective to your own personal style. We try to incorporate a lot of different lifestyles in everything we do.
As a home decor designer and someone who loves to entertain, what are your five entertaining must-haves?
1. Flowers: I like to use things I’ve collected over the years, or my daughter’s old school pottery projects for vases. It’s a quick way to add personality to any table arrangement.
2. Party Games: A super-easy (and fun) way for guests to stay entertained. I stash mine under the coffee table in the living room. Jenga and What Do You Meme are my faves.
3. Cotton Candy Machine: This might sound crazy, but my kids are very popular in school because of this and it makes for a great Insta moment.
4. Cool Bar (or ice buckets stashed around the party): I think it’s always fun to introduce a signature cocktail at every party complete with garnishes.
5. Statement Rug: It brings the whole room together. Even better if your rug is washable 😉
Any tips or dos and don’ts when designing with bold colors and playful patterns?
More is more in my book!
What do you like most about Ruggable rugs?
The fact that they’re washable…pure GENIUS.
What’s your favorite Ruggable rug?
All of the Ruggable rugs are beautiful, but I’m especially excited to work with the Ruggable team more closely on some surprise projects!
Cynthia Rowley’s New York show is just the first in a series of shows in her “traveling runway,” with more shows to come in different destinations, including Los Angeles, CA. Want to catch a glimpse of the Rugway? Watch Ruggable at NYFW below!

I love the runner in the kitchen idea. Not to mention my main search for one in my art space I’ve been wanting.
Thanks for being on Instagram. So glad I found you!
We love our Ruggable runners in the hall and kitchen. We also have a cool 8×10 in the spare bedroom. We are currently searching for a nice 5-6ft circular rug for our foyer Any chance you will be offering this size anytime soon?
Thank you
Cindy
